Carson set for expansion with 60+ new jobs

Carson Helicopters is in the process of planning applications to increase its warehouse and manufacturing buildings in the Philadelphia suburb of Hilltown by about 60%, Estelle Eberhardt has confirmed.  This follows 40,000 sq.ft of warehousing built in 2008 on the site which they have made their headquarters for almost fifty years.  Hilltown supervisors gave preliminary and final approval to Carson’s expansion plans, and they are awaiting a building permit for construction to begin.

This follows a large takeup for their revolutionary S61 blades which allow greater payloads than the models they replace, the production of which are currently subcontracted to a company in Canada.

One key part of this expansion is the US State Department agreement to purchase up to 110 upgraded S-61 helicopters for passenger and cargo transport missions in support of worldwide operations. By early December, purchase orders for 17 aircraft have been placed.  The upgrade program includes a full array of system upgrades for enhanced mission performance, as well as Carson’s composite main rotor blades. Additional features have been incorporated to reduce pilot fatigue and maintenance requirements for increased safety. Four aircraft are to be delivered in 2010, with deliveries of the next 13 upgraded S-61 helicopters scheduled throughout 2011.

Completion of the new buildings will lead to a requirement for at least 60 jobs
