AgustaWestland to open an Authorized Training Centre in Malaysia

AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company, is pleased to announce plans to establish an Authorized Training Centre in Malaysia to serve customers in the Far and Southeast Asian regions. The Training Centre is expected to be opened during the first half of 2012 and will be located nearby the AgustaWestland Malaysia Sdn Bhd headquarters, based at Kuala Lumpur’s Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport. The Training Centre will initially offer a range of services for the AW109 Power and the Grand/GrandNew light twin and the AW139 medium twin helicopters, including pilot type conversion and recurrent training, with a pilot instructor available to support customers in the region. Airframe and avionics maintenance type training courses will also be available, along with pilot ground courses.

AgustaWestland also expects to work closely with CAE to introduce a CAE 3000 Series AW139 Level D full-flight simulator to the Training Centre by the end of 2012. John Ponsonby, Senior Vice President Training, AgustaWestland said “This latest step is further evidence of our commitment to an evolving strategy based on the supply of comprehensive training services located as close as possible to the operations of our growing number of customers. AgustaWestland boasts a strong presence in Malaysia as well as in the region and operators will benefit from ever increasing levels of service quality, whilst also reducing operating costs.”

Through the training academies headquartered in Italy, UK and USA, AgustaWestland enjoys an enviable track record in successfully training both commercial and military pilots and maintainers from all over the world. Training programmes are tailored to meet a customer’s individual needs and operational requirements using established analytical processes. Training solutions and services are designed, developed and delivered through the entire lifecycle of the product to meet the demands of long-term operational support. Extensive use is made of knowledge enhanced multi-media tools and an expanding range of blended synthetic training solutions. These incorporate e-learning, part-task maintenance and procedures trainers, flight planning and missions system rehearsal, through to extensive full mission and flight simulation. AgustaWestland and CAE are partners in Rotorsim, a joint venture offering simulator training for the AW109 and AW139 helicopters. AgustaWestland Malaysia Sdn Bhd plays a major role in the Malaysian helicopter market, expanding its presence and increasing its capabilities through a continued programme of investment. AgustaWestland Malaysia’s regional maintenance and support centre is a Malaysian DCA approved maintenance and repair organization. AgustaWestland Malaysia Sdn Bhd is providing local support and training services for the growing fleet of AgustaWestland helicopters in the region.
