Hillsboro Aviation and the Doug Doty Vertical Flight Foundation are teaming up to offer the non-profit foundation’s first Bell 206B3 JetRanger Scholarship. The purpose of this scholarship is to help helicopter pilots advance to the next level in their training and make positive contributions to the aviation industry.

The scholarship includes enrollment in Hillsboro Aviation’s helicopter turbine transition training course. This course includes eight hours of ground training and five hours of flight training as well as pre-flight and post-flight briefings. Upon completion of Hillsboro Aviation’s course, the scholarship recipient will be eligible to attend the Bell 206B3 Initial Ground and Flight Procedures Training conducted by the Bell Helicopter Training Academy.  A Bell Helicopter certified flight instructor conducts an additional 12 hours of ground training which covers topics including in-depth aircraft systems, aircraft limitations, normal operating procedures, emergency procedures, hazardous flight conditions and proper pre-flight procedures. The instructor also will conduct an hour of flight training, which includes advanced maneuvers, emergency procedures and full touch-down autorations. The training will take place at Hillsboro Aviation’s training facility in Hillsboro, Oregon.

“This advanced training is an important part of preparing pilots for the next step in their career. Hillsboro Aviation is proud to be working with the Doug Doty Vertical Flight Foundation to offer this opportunity to helicopter pilots,” said Max Lyons, president and CEO of Hillsboro Aviation.

Applications will be accepted starting in August 2011 through The Doug Doty Vertical Flight Foundation’s web page,www.verticalflight.org. The scholarship is open to all applicants that meet the minimum requirements.
