STARS celebrates Husky Energy’s $1 million donation milestone

Lloydminster, SK, June 27, 2011 – Husky Energy reached a donation milestone today after presenting the Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society (STARS) with a $250,000 cheque toward the establishment of the STARS air ambulance program in Saskatchewan. The donation places Husky’s cumulative giving to STARS at over $1 million.

“Our partnership with STARS reflects the importance we place on providing expert medical response to communities where we live and work,”said Husky CEO Asim Ghosh. “We are pleased to work with STARS and the government to help bring airborne critical care to the people of Saskatchewan.”

Attendees at the event included the Honourable Tim McMillan, MLA for Lloydminster and Minister responsible for Crown Investment Corporation, and His Worship Jeff Mulligan, the Mayor of Lloydminster.

“On behalf of the government of Saskatchewan I want to commend Husky Energy for their strong leadership and financial commitment to the health and safety of communities across our province,” said Minister Tim McMillan. “The STARS program will be coordinated with our existing air and ground emergency services to ensure those in need receive rapid and sophisticated medical interventions and transportation when they need it.”

Mr. Edward T. Connolly, Vice President, Heavy Oil, Husky Oil Operations Limited, presented the donation to Scott Young, Aviation Vice President with STARS, at the Lloydminster Agricultural Exhibition in Lloydminster, SK.

“We are truly grateful for thisvery generous donation,” said Dr. Greg Powell, STARS Chief Executive Officer. “Husky Energy’s support continues to benefit critically ill and injured patients in Alberta, and will now help enable STARS to provide critical care and transportation servicesin Saskatchewan.”

STARS plans to open two helicopter air ambulance bases in Saskatchewan in 2012, with one base in Regina and another base in Saskatoon.
