Essex Police air unit launches Twitter stream

Essex Police, operating a Eurocopter EC135T2+ across the UK county of Essex, have recently joined Twitter.  In a growing trend among UK emergency services – both air ambulance and law enforcement – one by one all units are launching their presence on Twitter and keeping their residents updated with the tasks they are doing.  One of the vicarious benefits is to reduce noise complaints of low flying – obviously the law enforcement role can often mean low-level searches persistently in one area for a period of time.

This operation is centred on the county of Essex, east of London and north of the River Thames, and flies 24x7x365 from their hangar at Boreham, inside what used to be a test track for Ford Motor Co. Their agreement with neighbouring forces sometimes sees them cross their boundary, and indeed one of the first tweets sent showed they had been into Kent (to the south) and Cambridgeshire (to the north) that day.
