Gama Engineering Ltd’s appointment as a distributor Cobham’s HeliSAS Autopilot and Stability Augmentation System offers European helicopter operators an opportunity to introduce a new standard in flight safety.

HeliSAS replaces old analogue systems with a significantly lighter autopilot system that reduces pilot workload and increases helicopter stability. HeliSAS is already FAA certified and EASA validation is in progress.

It provides precise control during all modes of flight, regardless of wind conditions or any shifts in weight. HeliSAS is designed to be engaged at all times– “on” before takeoff and “off” after landing, resulting in a significantly reduced pilot workload. If the helicopter is inadvertently flown to an extreme attitude, simply releasing the cyclic while HeliSAS is engaged automatically returns the helicopter to a near-level attitude hands-off flight is possible due to the HeliSAS attitude-command/attitude-hold SAS + full autopilot configuration.

HeliSAS is immediately available for retrofit Bell 206B, 206L and 407 fleets, with the Eurocopter AS.350 series operators slatted to be the next helicopter operators to be able to enjoy the many benefits HeliSAS affords.
