The current Chairman and Managing Director of Pawan Hans Helicopters Ltd, Mr R.K. Tyagi has been appointed as the next Chairman of the Bangalore headquartered Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (“HAL”). The Public Enterprises Selection Board recommended Mr Tyagi name as Chairman pf HAL after interviewing three other persons.

The other contenders for the post were Mr S.K. Tripathi, Chairman and Managing Director, MSTC, and Mr S.N. Mishra from the Ministry of Defence. In 1964, HAL (the erstwhile Hindustan Aircraft Ltd) was merged with Aeronautics India Ltd and Aircraft Manufacturing Depot, Kanpur. Today, HAL has 19 production units and 10 research & design centres in eight locations around the country.
