Air Evac Lifeteam, the largest independently owned and operated air medical service in the United States, awarded Philips a contract to supply 127 HeartStart MRx monitor/defibrillators. The HeartStart MRx units will be deployed across all of Air Evac Lifeteam’s bases, which number 104 in 15 states, over the next six months.
The HeartStart MRx meets military airworthy standards for rotary and fixed-wing aircrafts. It is a portable, rugged, advanced monitor/defibrillator compatible with Philips IntelliVue monitoring systems within hospitals.
The HeartStart MRx provides a clear and colorful display of the patient’s vital signs along with a unique capability to view all 12 leads at one time on the screen. This allows accurate assessment of a patient prior to acquiring a 12-lead ECG. Air Evac Lifeteam will now be able to send advanced notification of patients’ vitals or ECGs to hospitals or receiving facilities before the patient’s arrival. This facilitates rapid mobilization of the appropriate staff and resources to treat the patient upon arrival, and ultimately reduce the crucial door-to-balloon time.
Jennifer Fletcher, Air Evac Lifeteam Director of Patient Care Services and Staff Development, said features such as real time data transmission, pricing and customer support led Air Evac Lifeteam to choose the Philips HeartStart MRx monitor.
“12-lead data transmission will further support our STEMI programs and help provide more timely access to advanced cardiac care,” Fletcher explained. “In the rural areas we serve where the patient is sometimes a great distance from critical cardiac care, this is a great benefit.”
Fletcher said she is very pleased with the customer service provided by Philips, noting that the company has collaborated with Air Evac Lifeteam to oversee every phase of initial set up, training and implementation. She said Philips trainers have traveled around the country to provide training sessions for their base clinical leads and Patient Care Services staff.
