The Suffolk County legislature has approved $7.5 million for a new helicopter for rescues on the east end, according to media reports. HeliHub.com believes this would equate to a Eurocopter EC145 to match the existing aircraft on EMS duties, although it is likely they will go through the expected procurement process with multiple types before deciding officially on the EC145 to maintain fleet commonality.
The County also flies three AS350B2s which are primarily tasked for law enforcement duties, one of which is expected to be disposed of when the new aircraft arrives.
