Dave Huntzinger joins SMS instructors at Heli-Expo 2012

Dave Huntzinger, former vice president of Safety for Eurocopter, recently joined Professional Resources In System Management, LLC (PRISM) as senior vice president of Helicopter Aviation Services and the team of instructors for the Advanced Safety Management Systems (SMS) Course at HELI-EXPO 2012.

Huntzinger teams with Guido Fuentes, PRISM’s safety program manager and HELI-EXPO veteran instructor, to deliver an intensive, three-day program on SMS Implementation at the Dallas Convention Center. From Feb. 9-11, the team will provide attendees with the knowledge and tools necessary for SMS design and maintenance, according to the requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Additionally, the instructors will coach attendees on how to reach structure optimization, a level of performance that produces permanent and continuous improvements in safety.

Dave Huntzinger joined PRISM in October 2011 to lead the Helicopter Aviation Services department, dedicated to providing the helicopter aviation industry with expert safety management coaching and system design. Huntzinger gained extensive helicopter pilot experience as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Coast Guard. He has served both Bell Helicopter and Boeing Commercial Airplane Group as an accident investigation team leader. Huntzinger’s industry background includes commercial airline, business aviation, and helicopter operations experience. Specifically, he has served the industry as vice president of Safety at America West Airlines, TAG Aviation, Korean Air, and Eurocopter.

Huntzinger has designed safety management systems for multiple aviation market segments, specializing in accident investigation, operational safety, Flight Operations Quality Assurance (FOQA), and emergency response. He is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society for his research in Procedural Intentional Non Compliance (PINC) and has earned his PhD in Safety. Dave has accumulated more than 3,000 hours in rotary-wing and fixed-wing aircraft.
