Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) announced today at Helicopter Association International’s HELI-EXPO 2012 that it has delivered its 1,000th PT6C-67C engine to AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company. Pratt & Whitney Canada is a United Technologies Corp. company (NYSE:UTX).
The PT6C-67C, the latest generation engine in the PT6C turboshaft family, powers the AgustaWestland AW139 helicopter. This family of engines was designed to support the growing medium-class helicopter market, including offshore, law enforcement, VIP transport, emergency medical services, maritime patrol, search and rescue and utility operations. Operating in the 2,000 shaft horsepower class, the engine has quickly distinguished itself for its durability, ease of pilot operation, operating economics and maintenance diagnostics.
“This milestone speaks to the enduring relationship we have fostered with AgustaWestland over the years,” said Richard Dussault, Vice President, Marketing, P&WC. “In addition to the PT6C family of engines, AgustaWestland helicopters are also powered by the full suite of P&WC turboshaft engines, including the PT6T, PT6B and the PW200. The new AgustaWestland AW169 aircraft will be powered by our latest, state-of-the-art, PW210A turboshaft engine.”
Using the legendary PT6 engine as its base, P&WC has built a dependable and highly flexible family of turboshaft engines, designed to meet a variety of applications and power requirements for both twin- and single-engine helicopters. Innovation, dependability and sound operating economics are in the PT6’s DNA.
P&WC helicopter engine deliveries have more than tripled over the last decade, positioning the company as a leader in the market in both products and customer support.
