The annual gathering of the avionics industry professionals takes place in Munich, Germany next week, 21st & 22nd March, in Hall 4 of the MOC Event Centre.

Avionics Europe is the region’s premier conference and exhibition that discusses the issues and challenges in the future of commercial and defence avionics, and will see the international avionics community meet to look at the future challenges facing the aerospace industry.

Under the theme ‘Common Sky: Operating in One Air Space’, the Avionics Europe 2012 conference will focus on the current and future cockpit avionics and technologies for commercial, civil and military aircraft and design approaches to grow air traffic in the most safe and efficient ways possible.

SESAR and NextGen feature highly in the conference programme, as focus continues on how to make the skies safer and more efficient, with the increasing number of commercial and military aircraft sharing the same airspace.

The conference will open with an excellent high profile opening keynote speech at 9am on Wednesday 21st March, free to attend to all visitors, delegates and exhibitors at Avionics Europe, and will see outstanding presentations from:
– Mário Araújo, V-P Engineering, TAP Portugal
– Brigadier General Hans-Georg Schmidt, Germany
– Pierre Bachelier, Head of ATM Programme. Airbus Engineering

The keynote session will be chaired by John Keller, Conference Chairman and Editor in Chief, Military & Aerospace Electronics.

The keynote session will then be followed by a full two-day conference programme, covering commercial and defence avionics technologies and challenges, will deliver two conference tracks with 50 international speakers, plus a series of technical work shops.

Workshop Programme:
• Efficient Development and Integration on Target of Certifiable ARINC 661 Cockpit Display
• Systems and User Applications – Vincent Roissignol, SCADE Display Product Manager, Esterel, USA
• Exploring the Application of an Eye Tracker in a Fighter Helmet Mounted Display – Antonie de Reus, Snr R&D Manager, National Aerospace Laboratory, The Netherlands
• Tackling the Challenge of Smaller, Lighter and More Efficient Avionics with a Revolutionary Method to Redefine Thermal
• Applying Model-Based Software Development and Hardware-In-The-Loop Testing to Airborne Software Development – Andreas Himmler, Product Manager and Dirk Fleischer, Product Manager – dSpace GmbH, Germany
• Future Trends and Challenges for Avionic Software Systems – Fridtjof Siebert, CTO, Aicas GmbH, Germany
• Deterministic Avionics Networks and Advanced System Integration – Mirko Jakovljevic, TTTech Computertechnik, Germany

Leading Industry Association to host forums at Avionics Europe

Leading industry organisations, the Association of European Airlines, SESAR Joint Undertaking, EUROCAE and the German Aerospace Society and Royal Aeronautical Societies will be hosting a series of special forums, focussing on issues directly within the industry, that impact on the work and business of avionics professionals and the industry at large.

Forums Programme:

EUROCAE
‘The Force of Standards for the Avionics Industry’
Moderated by the Secretary General of EUROCAE, Mr. Abdoulaye N’Diaye, this session will explore the benefits of standards for the avionics industry in Europe and beyond from a structural perspective and demonstrate possible benefits by examining several examples in the field of the avionics industry. Participants will meet and exchange with high level representatives of European organisations, leaders from industry and EUROCAE experts.

AEA (ASSOCIATION OF EUROPEAN AIRLINES)
‘SESAR Update from the Airlines Perspective’
Moderated by Vincent De Vroey, General Manager Technical and Operations, Association of European Airlines, this forum will consist of presentations by some of the airlines involved in the SESAR project, providing an updated perspective from the airlines. Airlines presenting include Air France and Iberia.

SESAR JU
‘Avionics Developments in SESAR – Supporting the future ATM System’
Moderated by Head of ATM Systems at SESAR, David Bowen, , this session will examine how SESAR will substantially change the way air traffic management in Europe is handled in future. The aim of the SESAR workshop is to acquaint Avionics specialists with the state-of-play of some of the cornerstones of the SESAR technical concept and the related airborne system developments in the programme.

DGLR / ROYAL AERONAUTICAL SOCIETY
This forum chaired by Dr. Thomas Wittig, Chair of DGLR Working Group Q3 is organised by the DGLR Working Group Q3, entitled “Avionics and Mission Technologies”, and the Royal Aeronautical Society. The session will start with an overview of trends in aeronautical telemetry. A presentation about mission avionics to support air-to-air refuelling manoeuvres will follow. The session will be closed with contributions regarding multi-UAV guidance using cognitive automation as well as UAV computing.

Exhibition floor full of technologies and innovations
On the exhibition floor around 70 leading international high-tec companies will be demonstrating and showcasing some of the latest innovations, research and solutions in cockpit and ATM technology.

There is also a comprehensive free to attend programme of innovation and product-update presentations from some of the leading companies in the exhibition, giving greater insight into the technologies and solutions available on the floor.

Exhibitor Presentations programme:

TE Connectivity – Advanced Avionics Interconnect Technology
National Instruments – Software-defined Instrumentation Leveraging COTS Technologies
PTC – Delivering Innovative High Consequence Embedded Software On Schedule With Integrity, A PTC Product
Atego – Model-based development of ARINC653 using UML and SysML in a DO178-C environment
Vector Informatik GmbH – Systems Engineering and Functional Safety – The Way Forward
Goodrich – Sensors and Integrated Systems EFBs in NextGen and SESAR
HR Smith – Enhancements in Emergency Beacon Technology
MBS – The Data Loading Evolution
