An extra special Falkland’s Conflict commemorative event is to take place at The Helicopter Museum, Weston-super-Mare on 19th and 20th May as part of the national ‘Museums at Night 2012’ campaign. Visitors to the museum will be able to meet the ‘troops’ at a living history encampment and military vehicle display on site before the British and Argentine soldiers battle it out on the Museums Helipad in a live open air re-enactment.
“The weekend promises to be extremely exciting and educational†said Museum Manager Lee Mills “for not only will visitors be able to climb aboard the vehicles and handle the weaponry and equipment used in the 1982 conflict but they will actually be able to meet the real heroes who served there in our Veterans Loungeâ€
“Several Royal Marines and Aircraft Pilots will be attending the event to chat to visitors about the conflict itself and representatives of the Charity ‘Soldiers Off The Street’ will be talking about the exceptional work they undertake for ex-servicemen and raising money for their very worthwhile cause.â€
Also during the weekend there will be an exclusive Falklands Art Exhibition by West Country Artist Rachael Lomas and a chance to meet esteemed Aviation Artist and Historian David Gibbings, who will be signing prints of his Falklands Paintings.
And if that was not enough the aircraft hangars will also be full to the brim with over 30 different flight simulators for visitors to ‘test fly’ as the Museum once again plays host to the largest flight simulator convention in the South West.
