Mumbai Police prepare to spend $19M on a helicopter

A local press article suggests that the Police in the city of Mumbai could be the first to go airborne, but it is not clear whether the proposed helicopter would be available throughout the state of Maharastra or not.  Mumbai has a population of over 12 million at a staggering density of over 50,000 per square mile over its 230 square miles.  The state of Maharastra by comparison has a population of 112 million across an area of 118,000 square miles.

The article states that a figure of Rs 100 crore ($19.4M in today’s money) has been set aside for the helicopter, and the visit this week of Sikorky’s S92 Legacy of Heroes tour at Mumbai’s Juhu Heliport this week could be more than just a coincidence, we suspect.
