12-Aug-12 AF-8** Mil Mi-24 (3 of 3) Mount Kenya, Kenya

Three Mi-24 helicopters of a group of four ferrying from Uganda to Somalia impacted Mount Kenya in poor weather and in close formation – all three wrecks within 1km of each other approx 11,000ft above sea level.  This helicopter ended up in a 45 degree left bank situation in a wooded area (photo).  7 on board, all survived, but with serious injuries.  It also carries a yellow “3” on the nose and the AU titles for the work it was intended for in Somalia.  Pilot was Lt.Col Chris Kasaija.  Weather/Visibility was reportedly a factor.  The fourth helicopter, a Mi-8, continued to its intended destination
