Gunnery Sgt. John Militello of the Marine Aviation Training System Site tests the state-of-the-art CH-53E enhanced aircrew externals trainer located at Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Kaneohe Bay. Naval Aviation Training Systems program office (PMA-205) announced the simulator “ready for training” Aug. 24. The device was designed, developed and employed by PMA-205, along with Manned Flight Simulator and J.F. Taylor, all located at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Md. The trainer resembles the back half of the CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter and is equipped with an opening in the floor for crew chiefs to practice external loads simulation in any weather condition. Instructors can synchronize the simulator with the MCBH-based CH-53E containerized flight training device, used for pilot training, for full aircrew mission simulation. Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 463 will be the first to use the simulator.
