Aero Vodochody signs contract to produce 50 S70i cockpits

AERO Vodochody signed a contract for delivery of cockpits for Sikorsky S-70i Black Hawk helicopter today at ILA Berlin air show. Aero will deliver no fewer than 50 cockpit structural assemblies to PZL Mielec through 2017.

The S-70i cockpit structure Aero will make for Polish company PZL Mielec, subsidiary to American Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation consists of a single assembly that includes the nose section, the windshield canopy, and the platform where the two pilots sit. Included with the assembly are electrical wiring and flight controls comprising the cyclic stick and the anti-torque pedals. “AERO Vodochody is a proven aerostructures manufacturer with an established history of delivering high quality airframe assemblies to Sikorsky,” said Janusz Zakrecki, President of PZL Mielec.

Since 2011, Aero produces cockpits for Sikorsky UH-60M Black Hawk, the most widely used helicopter of US army. The S-70i Black Hawk helicopter is designed specifically for the international military market. In fact, Aero already took a part on its production. “For the past two years, we have worked with PZL Mielec to produce cable harnesses for S-70i helicopters. Aero also supplies S-76 helicopters to Sikorsky already for twelve years. This contract is therefore a follow-up of our great relationship with our main customer.”

The S-70i Black Hawk helicopter is designed by Sikorsky with affordability and adaptability in mind. Militaries and government agencies can configure the aircraft with optional equipment to meet their specific mission requirements. First S-70i helicopters were delivered already in 1970s, PZL Mielec produces this type of helicopter since 2009.

AERO Vodochody is is a leading Czech aircraft manufacturer with tradition since 1919. Since 2000, Aero focuses mainly on international aerostructures programs, besides of cooperation with Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation Aero participates on projects of Airbus, Boeing, Embraer and other leading aircraft producers. Today, Aero has almost 1,500 employees.

PZL Mielec (Polskie Zakłady Lotnicze) became part of Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation in 2007. The company whose history dates back to interwar period currently employs 2100 people. Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation is the world’s largest producer of civil and military helicopters.
