On Sept. 24, NTSB Chairman Deborah A. P. Hersman named senior air safety investigator Clinton O. Johnson as Chief of the Office of Aviation Safety’s Anchorage, Alaska Regional Office.

“It gives me great pleasure to announce Clint’s selection to head the Anchorage office,” said Chairman Hersman. “Clint has deep roots in Alaska and has distinguished himself by serving as the investigator-in-charge of more than 700 aviation accidents in Alaska, in the U.S. and around the world. Under his leadership, the NTSB’s work will contribute to further improvements in air safety in Alaska.”

Johnson led the NTSB investigation of the crash that claimed the lives of former U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens and four others.

Johnson serves as the agency lead on helicopter safety and as NTSB liaison to the Helicopter Association International’s safety committee.

Johnson earned a degree in Aviation Administration from the University of Alaska.
