One of the measures on tap for the U.S. Congress’s lame duck session is to pass a bill that would reform the Postal Service (S.1789), due to its serious financial issues. However, the bill contains an amendment (SA2060) that would permit all federal agencies to attend only one association meeting per year.
The category of “association meetings” includes events such as HAI’s HELI-EXPO®, HAI committee meetings, and EAA’s AirVenture. These events give federal agency officials, such as those from the FAA, NTSB, and U.S. Forest Service, a valuable opportunity to receive feedback directly from those on the frontlines: owners and operators of aircraft.
The bill (S.1789) and amendment (SA2060) have both passed the Senate, and are waiting for action in the House of Representatives. HAI urges you to contact your congressmen and tell them to oppose SA2060 in any form as a part of postal service reform. You can find your congressman at www.house.gov.
