On average, about every 34 minutes 2012 to the injured and ill patients was treated by an emergency physician the ÖAMTC Air  Ambulance. Overall, the emergency helicopter launched to 15,589 operations. More than 500 specially trained paramedics, air ambulance of the Red Cross, the mountain rescue and the Vienna Ambulance and 48 pilots ensured a comprehensive emergency medical assistance from the air.”Many hundreds of people can see through this quick help in 2013 or have spared permanent health damage,” says Reinhard Kraxner, CEO of ÖAMTC Air Ambulance.

81 percent of the primary missions for which the emergency crew is called directly to the scene of the emergency, 45 percent were made by medical and neurological emergencies.16 percent of applications were accidents that have occurred at work, at leisure or in the home and 13 percent of the missions were flown to leisure injuries and Alpine skiing. Only one in ten flight was necessary because of a traffic accident.

Analysis by region

Nearly a quarter of the inserts ÖAMTC Air Ambulance flew in Lower Austria (3,287 operations), followed by Tyrol (2774) and Styria (1,768). The Viennese doctor helicopter Christophorus 9 flew 1,731 rescue flights the most uses. In the squares of the Wiener Neustadt helicopter Christophorus are 3 by 1.341 and the machine Subener Christopher Europe 3 with 1,280 operations.

Air Ambulance remains secure

With the beginning of 2012 for the air ambulance in Austria, a new page has been turned. “After three turbulent years, more or less succeeded, for all states to work out solutions to the air ambulance to provide long-term financially sound footing,” says the CEO of ÖAMTC Air Ambulance.
