Butler National Corporation (OTCQB): BUKS, a leader in the growing global market for structural modification, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) announces through its wholly owned subsidiary, Avcon Industries, Inc. that they have produced a concept design for a skid mounted portable System for LIDAR operations in rotor wing aircraft. The installation of the LiDAR Laser Unit is within an enclosed “pod” and does not require any airframe structural modifications. This is beneficial for operators that utilize helicopters in multi-role missions by allowing them to quickly remove this system when scanner operations are not required and or modify the equipment attached rapid and easily. For fleet operators this mounting system could quickly be moved from one same make and model helicopter to another as a result of planned or unplanned maintenance events. Another significant benefit to the systems design is that no structural modifications to aircraft are required that usually adversely affect the value and therefore future resale of the aircraft.

“This is a significant step for Butler in broadening our scanner mount product lines into rotor wing applications”, said Clark Stewart, President and CEO. If the concept design is accepted in the marketplace, Avcon Industries, Inc. will then start formal STC programs for specific helicopter types. Avcon is renowned throughout the world as a leader in fixed wing camera provision modifications with vast experience in developing over 250 STC’s in the last 40 years.

The concept design has been installed on a Robinson R66 and included a Leica ALS70 LiDAR Laser Scanning System, Pilot HUD-Operating Display, System Operator Console and Display, and Main System CPU with Laser Controller.

Future applications of this concept design are being evaluated for systems mounting and management for all forms of helicopter airborne external systems such as Cameras, FLIR, Lighting Units [e.g. Solar Sun], and even portable controller and or cargo-baggage configurations.
