Technisonic Introduces New Transceiver for Forestry

Technisonic Industries Ltd., a world leader in the development, manufacture and support of special-mission airborne communications systems, is introducing helicopter operators seeking to comply with the latest standards for interoperable aeronautical radios to its all-new TDFM-136B VHF/FM transceiver at Heli-Expo 2013.

Technisonic is displaying the TDFM-136B and other new products March 5-7 as part of its exhibit at Booth N1922 in the North Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center during Heli-Expo 2013.

Using the latest technology, Technisonic developed the TDFM-136B specifically for operators performing forestry missions that require compliance with the Project 25 (P25) suite of digital radio communications standards. As a member of the Telecommunications Industry Association, which has developed the P25 suite of standards, Technisonic has been involved in their development and implementation.

“Technisonic is dedicated to creating new and innovative ideas and products to meet the unique and varied operational requirements of our customers,” said Jim Huddock, Manager of Business Development, Federal/Military at Technisonic. “The TDFM-136B, which is the only newly certified forestry-mission radio on the market, offers operators the benefits of the latest technological advances in radio communications.”

Weighing just 3.5 pounds, the TDFM-136B is a direct, drop-in replacement for existing approved radios that are approaching obsolescence. Pilots who today communicate with the TDFM-136 or TDFM-136A will see no difference in using the TDFM-136B; both transceivers are operated in exactly the same way. The TDFM-136B is panel-mounted with Dzus standard-line, quarter-turn fasteners and is completely self-contained in a 3.0-inch-high, 5.75-inch-wide, 8.0-inch-deep chassis.

The TDFM-136B’s design is based on Digital Signal Processor (DSP) technology; it does not depend on the availability of proprietary chip sets or boards from competing vendors. The transceiver provides digital or conventional analog communications on every currently available channel within the VHF/FM band, from 136 to 174 megahertz (MHz). The transceiver operates on the Common Air Interface and is capable of multimode operation at 12.5 kilohertz (kHz) analog and P25 12.5 kHz digital modulation on a channel-by-channel basis.

A pilot can select a frequency by entering it with the 12-button key pad on the TDFM-136B’s front panel. Frequencies also can be preset in up to 230 non-volatile memory positions through the key pad or by downloading them from a PC via a USB connection. All preset frequencies can be scanned. The transceiver’s 48-character, two-line LED matrix display, is available in green or optional NVG compatible.

 

Technisonic is offering briefings on its new products for original equipment manufacturers, federal agencies and integrators on March 6 from 9:30 to 10 a.m. and March 7 from 10:15 to 10:45 a.m. It also is offering briefings for airborne law enforcement and air medical operators and commercial integrators on March 6 from 10:30 to 11 a.m. and March 7 from 9:30 to 10 a.m.
