Vector Aerospace Helicopter Services-North America (Vector) will be exhibiting at Canada’s Defence & Security Showcase (CANSEC), taking place at the Ernst & Young Centre in Ottawa, Ontario from May 29th – 30th, 2013 (Booth #809).

Vector Aerospace continues to be active in providing helicopter operators with robust, cost effective cockpit upgrade solutions.  Their latest concept, the CH146 Griffon Cockpit Demonstrator, will be on display at this year’s CANSEC show in Ottawa.  The Vector solution is based on the proven Rockwell Collins AFD-3010E’s, a TSO’d commercial display system that consists of large, uncluttered, NVG compatible, 8 by 10 AMLCD’s, enhancing crew efficiency and situational awareness.  The system is versatile as the displays are interchangeable to function as a Primary Flight Display (PFD), Multi Function Display (MFD) with Engine Indication (EI) and a Caution Advisory System (CAS) which is currently under development.  A single display would replace several individual gauge indicators, which drastically reduces operational costs.

Other features include compatibility with Helicopter Terrain Avoidance Systems (HTAWS), which uses GPS and an on board global terrain databases to show pilot’s terrain ahead.  MFD formats display navigation maps, weather radar, electronic charts, video, TCAS traffic and aircraft maintenance data. EICAS formats enable critical engine and system status data and display as needed.

Having performed over 500 cockpit upgrades on various aircraft, Vector has a great deal of experience successfully retrofitting new generation avionics and glass cockpits into legacy Helicopters and view the Bell 412CF “Griffon” as a perfect candidate for such a retrofit.

“The Griffon is a very capable helicopter which would benefit greatly with an enhanced cockpit”, states Elvis Moniz, VP Operations, Langley. “Cockpit technology has evolved immensely towards helping pilots and crew fly missions more safely and efficiently”.  Moniz mentioned that the Canadian DND Griffon fleet currently operates using a multitude of aged analog instruments, gauges and devices which could economically be replaced with solid state digital technology, which is more capable, lighter and more reliable than the existing analog variants.  “The airframes are maintained as good as, or better than, any other fleet in the world, and with a fresh cockpit, will position the helicopter to continue flying various challenging missions for many years to come.” continued Moniz.

“Our demonstrator is a viable example of a solution which could be utilized, using proven technology, equipment, and certification methods, up to and including STC all of which would contribute to an economical, low risk upgrade program in this age of budget constraints.”

Vector has a well-established history of providing industry leading aviation maintenance, repair and overhaul services to the defence and security sector; with a customer-base that includes the Canadian Department of Defence, the US Army, the US Navy and the UK Ministry of Defence. As well, Vector offers its diverse mix of helicopter and fixed-wing MRO services to various Foreign Military Sales (FMS) operators and international defense organizations, as well as a diverse commercial operator customer base.

At CANSEC 2013, Vector’s experienced and knowledgeable team of helicopter customer service professionals will be on hand to discuss unique customer requirements, and how Vector’s value-driven repair and overhaul solutions are available to address these requirements.  Vector Aerospace’s comprehensive helicopter service portfolio includes: Rolls-Royce M250; Rolls-Royce T56/501D; Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6T series engines; Turbomeca Arriel 1 and Arriel 2; General Electric T58 / CT58 and CT-7A / T700 engines; Honeywell TFE731 and Honeywell ALF 502/LF507 (all engine lines include complete test capability); dynamic components, full-service avionics capability; up to and including glass cockpit engineering, development and integration, complete aircraft rewires, as well as airframes and major inspections support for a variety of Eurocopter, Sikorsky, Boeing and AgustaWestland helicopter models.
