Weststar Aviation Services has signed a new offshore support contract to be based in Mauretania, its first operations outside its home country of Malaysia. The contract, signed in London today, sees two AgustaWestland AW139s committed to UK-based Tullow Oil for 2+1+1 years. The value of the contract is estimated at RM500 million – $162.7M at today’s prices. Terms had been agreed at least two months ago, with the ceremonial signature in the prestigous Hilton Hotel.

Weststar Aviation forecasts future revenue streams of upward RM2 billion in other African nations such as Ivory Coast, Ghana, Senegal and Mozambique. Managing director Tan Sri Syed Azman Syed Ibrahim has said that Weststar Aviation has been invited to bid for contracts to provide helicopter services in west Africa.

Further opportunities exist with the company currently bidding for a seven-aircraft AW139 contract in Thailand.

The company, which started its operations in 2008, operates from bases in Kertih, Kota Baharu and Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia, covering contracts worth over RM6 billion – $1.95 billion

Tullow is a leading independent oil & gas, exploration and production group, quoted on the London and Irish Stock Exchanges (symbol: TLW) and is a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index. The Group has interests in over 85 exploration and production licences across 23 countries and focuses on four core areas: Africa, Europe, South Asia and South America. The company opened an office in Nouakchott – the capital and second largest city of Mauretania – in March 2013
