Canada’s first CH-47F includes contribution from Terma

Terma North America Inc., a subsidiary of Terma A/S, Denmark is providing the Royal Canadian Air Force with first-of-its-kind capability on new Boeing [NYSE: BA] CH-47F Chinook helicopters.

Terma supplies the Aircraft Survivability Equipment (ASE) integrator for the recently delivered Canadian Chinook helicopter. The integrator – the Electronic Warfare Management System (EWMS) – features dual cockpit displays and integrates multiple warning and countermeasure systems to provide aircrews with unprecedented protection. Canada is the first country to have this integrated suite of systems.

“Terma has played a key role in supporting several Boeing products,” said Gwen Kopsie, vice president of International Strategic Partnerships for Boeing Defense, Space and Security. “Our long-standing partnership with Terma and Danish industry has proved successful for the country’s aerospace industry as well as for Boeing.”

In addition to the Chinook work, Terma has partnered with Boeing and its subcontractors on electronic components and harnesses for the NATO Airborne Warning and Control System the EWMS for the P-8A Poseidon, the U.S. Navy’s newest maritime patrol aircraft; and Harpoon missile simulators.

Boeing delivered the first of 15 new CH-47F Chinook helicopters to Canada on June 21. All are scheduled to be delivered by June of next year.

The Chinook is a multi-mission, heavy-lift transport helicopter. Its primary mission is to move troops and supplies, but it also can be used for medical evacuation, disaster relief, search and rescue, and other military and civilian missions.

In addition to improved survivability features, the CH-47F includes a modernized airframe with a long-range fuel system, upgraded electrical system, fully integrated Common Avionics Architecture System cockpit, and Digital Automatic Flight Control System.
