Med-Trans Corp. has announced the expansion of their Life Air Rescue air medical program, adding a second base in Natchitoches, Louisiana. The life saving program will serve the region 24 hours a day, seven days a week beginning mid-September. The region will benefit from the superior clinical care and exceptional reputation established by Life Air Rescue over the past 30 years as well as the aviation expertise of Med-Trans, recognized as an industry leader in developing successful air medical programs throughout the United States.

The Natchitoches air medical program will transport patients utilizing a new Bell 407 helicopter designed to facilitate optimal patient care. The aircraft is equipped with state-of-the-art safety equipment and features, such as night vision goggles, radar altimeters, GPS navigation, satellite tracking and communications and helicopter terrain alert warning systems (HTAWS). Life Air Rescue currently operates a base location in Shreveport, and the program has been CAMTS accredited since 1996.

Rob Hamilton, Chief Operating Officer for Med-Trans Corporation stated, “Life Air Rescue has done a tremendous job serving the region, providing critical care to patients throughout Louisiana. This additional location allows Life Air Rescue to expand, providing a crucial service to the parishes that will greatly benefit when time is of the essence.”

“We are pleased Life Air Rescue is adding a base in Natchitoches. As a community, we need this service. Currently, we must rely on ground ambulances or a helicopter from the larger cities when a patient needs to be transported. The more serious the injury or illness, the more critical it is to race the clock,” explained Kirk Soileau, Chief Executive Officer of Natchitoches Regional Medical Center. “Too often, time becomes the critical factor in a patient’s survival, so being able to quickly access an air ambulance will give patients the best chance for a good outcome. The doctors and nurses at Natchitoches Regional Medical Center will work with the helicopter crew to coordinate care for patients coming into NRMC and those being referred out. By working together and having Life Air Rescue here in our community, we will be able to better serve our patients,” Soileau said. Life Air Rescue is recognized as an industry leader in clinical care as well as aviation safety. The Life Air Rescue team will work closely with first- responders and hospitals throughout Louisiana.
