TeraXion, a leader in the development and manufacturing of optical components designed for very-high-speed networks, and Esterline CMC Electronics (CMC), a leader in the design and manufacturing of avionics systems, are partnering to design next-generation transceivers.

Through this partnership, CMC will benefit from TeraXion’s expertise in designing high-speed, high-volume components for fiber-optic telecommunications. In turn, TeraXion will benefit from CMC’s expertise in the design of high-reliability avionics components, to better meet the ever- increasing reliability requirements of civil optical communications systems.

“Not only does CMC’s expertise enable TeraXion to stay ahead of the curve in the telecom industry, this partnership also allows TeraXion to widen the applicability of its products and technologies within the avionics market, since CMC is a major player in this field,” mentioned Ghislain Lafrance, Vice-President of Business Development at TeraXion.

“This collaboration with TeraXion will provide an opportunity to offer the higher-performance products that the avionics market is looking for, while shortening the development cycle, which should give us a significant edge on our global competitors,” explained François Lamarche, Director of Hybrid Microcircuits at CMC.

Such innovative, mobilizing, joint R&D projects were made possible thanks to the help and financial support of the Quebec government, through its private partnership precompetitive research program and its SA2GE program. These projects will also help both partners learn about common management of major scientific projects and, ultimately, enable them to use the results to further develop their respective technologies.

“Such support is fundamental for TeraXion to continue growing in markets where the competition is global,” added Alain-Jacques Simard, President of TeraXion.

TeraXion provides leading-edge optoelectronic solutions that enable today and tomorrow’s communication networks, industrial lasers and optical sensing. TeraXion is headquartered in Quebec City, where the company employs over 150 people.
