Group3 Aviation, a Los Angeles helicopter tour company, recently added a new helicopter to its fleet. The addition to the fleet is a 206B JetRanger III helicopter, which will be used for charter flights, sightseeing and aerial photographs and filming.

The Bell 206 JetRanger helicopter is capable of seating four passengers in addition to the pilot. It is a single engine turbine helicopter that is produced by Bell Helicopters head quartered in Fort Worth Texas. This aircraft comes from a family of aircraft that were originally developed for the United States Army, and have since been marketed for private helicopter pilots as well as commercial use. It is considered to be a light utility helicopter.

The 206B JetRanger has a maximum cruising speed of around 136 miles per hour, and is able to make an initial climb of up to 1,540 feet per minute. Its main rotor has a diameter of 33 feet, with an overall height of 9 feet seven inches. It weighs around 1,455 lbs. when empty, and is capable of carrying a load that is almost equal to its total weight as well.

In addition to being used commercially the Bell 206B JetRanger III will also be used for some of the dual flight training that’s offered at Group3 Aviation. In allowing this helicopter to be used in training, this FAA-approved flight school will be able to offer a more diverse array of flight experience to students, thereby allowing them to be more well-rounded pilots once they actually receive their initial certification.

For now, the JetRanger III will only be used at Group3 Aviation’s Los Angeles, California location. There has been no word as to whether or not a similar helicopter is being considered for use at the company’s Anchorage, Alaska location.
