Swiss fixed and rotary wing flight school Flugschule Eichenberger has recently concluded the purchase of a Robinson R44 from a private owner in the UK.  Up to now, the flight school has only owned Enstrom helicopters, and currently has F28, F280 and 480 models in its fleet.  They have additionally leased in both Bell 206 and 407s from Central Helicopter Services as and when required.

Flugschule Eichenberger has trained owners in their own R44s since 2001, and increased market demand has led to them finally buying an example to base at Buttwil, near Zurich.   The leasing option was considered, but the cost of doing this in Switzerland was not far different to that of an Enstrom 480, so it made sense to purchase instead.  They expect to fly 500 hours per year on the aircraft.

The addition of Robinson R44 Raven I HB-ZOC was confirmed Friday when the registration was issued by the Swiss authorities.   The helicopter is currently undergoing a refurbishment including the fitment of bladder tanks and a repaint in a black and red.  The image below is a sketchy “artist impression” and will be replaced by an actual image as soon as one is available.
