Airmedic is announcing the acquisition of two AgustaWestland 109GrandNew helicopters specifically configured for emergency medical services (EMS)—a first in Quebec.

“These two new Category A twin-engine helicopters will provide us with greater latitude to fulfill our mission,” points out Airmedic president Christian Trudeau. “Our ultimate goal is to be able to fly to the rescue of our members anywhere, anytime. We are investing accordingly: our new choppers are faster, safer in bad weather, and equipped to enable us to eventually rescue someone in complete darkness.”

Propelled by two Pratt & Whitney PW207G turbine engines, the GrandNew can reach a speed of 320 km/h and maintain flight with a single engine. It is equipped for instrument flight and comes with a rescue hoist. The AW109SPs acquired by Airmedic are the first helicopters configured for emergency medical services to be introduced in Quebec.
