Stan Rose, HAI director of safety outreach, was in Corpus Christi, Texas, at the Airborne Law Enforcement Association (ALEA) Central Region Safety Seminar, November 4–6.

Ryan Miller, ALEA Central Region director, was assisted by the host agency, Texas Department of Public Safety – gracious hosts who put on an exceptional event.

In the opening remarks, Daniel Schwarzbach, ALEA executive director/CEO and HAI Board Member, gave updates on current ALEA issues including news of a new, more user-friendly ALEA website – due in January; nominations open for the ALEA Board; nominations open for the ALEA scholarship program.

Throughout the seminar, Don Roby, ALEA training program manager, and Bryan Smith, ALEA safety program manager emphasized the fact that an effective safety program needs the cooperation of both safety and training departments. When these two functions are combined, a unit has a much better opportunity to address the risks involved in missions. The seminar provided workable examples of how to accomplish this aim, and the audience benefitted greatly from the cooperative efforts of Don and Bryan.
