The emergency medical helicopter in Gothenburg will join the new local HEMS federation that is being established in Värmland and Dalarna. Adding to this, the federation, which is currently known as “Kommunalförbundet Ambulanshelikopter Värmland-Dalarna” (KAVD), will change name to “Svensk Luftambulans” according to a press release from Värmland’s County Council.

The EMS helicopter service in Gothenburg has been operating in its civil state since February 2002. Västra Götaland’s County Council has used Sikorsky S-76 helicopters for the purpose ever since. The operation is stationed at Gothenburg City Airport (Säve), and it covers a large region in the southwest of Sweden.

KAVD, or Svensk Luftambulans, is a new local EMS helicopter federation that is shared by affiliated councils, currently Värmland, Dalarna and soon Västra Götaland. It got its Air Operator Certificate in August 2014 and started with a temporary EC 135 P2 in Karlstad shortly thereafter. The HEMS service in Dalarna is expected to start later this year. KAVD recently ordered two brand new Airbus EC 145 T2 helicopters, with an option for eight more aircraft.
