Various Spanish websites including ABC, Efe and ELDiA  are reporting that an EMS pilot based at Tenerife Sur airport (=Reina Sofia Airport) has failed a breath test.  INAER, who have a zero tolerance approach to the taking of drugs or alcohol, called the Guardia Civil to conduct the breathalyser test, and the pilot reportedly showed positive for a “high rate of alcohol” in his blood after arriving one hour late for his shift.  Diario de Avisos goes further, stating the pilot’s first name as Rafael.

In a statement to Efe, INAER confirmed that their Tenerife unit had temporarily been stood down after the incident on Saturday 7th February and that they had opened an investigation to the incident.  They then proceeded to arrange a crew change to minimise the down time of the aircraft being grounded.
