Honeywell Aerospace (NYSE: HON) has signed a three-year agreement with Weststar Aviation Services Sdn Bhd, a global offshore helicopter transportation services provider based in Malaysia, to enroll 23 of its AgustaWestland AW139 helicopters in the Honeywell Avionics Protection Plan.

The Honeywell Avionics Protection Plan, known as HAPP, is designed to shore up support for operator fleet availability. Under this agreement, the AW139 fleet will be granted full coverage for its avionics suite, offering Weststar Aviation Services greater cost predictability and maintenance cost management. The avionics coverage also includes the cockpit electrical systems.

“Fleet availability remains a key priority for many operators in the Asia Pacific region as the demand for helicopter services continues to grow,” said Mark Burgess, vice president, APAC, Defense and Space, Honeywell Aerospace. “We are delighted to be partnered with Weststar Aviation Services and believe they will benefit from increased fleet availability with the HAPP and possibly enjoy cost savings of up to twice the expense of the plan in just one unanticipated repair event.”

“With our AW139 global operations, the HAPP program supports our pledge in delivering excellence to our customers. Managing aircraft availability with stringent safety protocols under unforgiving and varied operational environments is challenging. Hence, we firmly believe HAPP offers reassurances with dependable solutions,” said Russell Allen, chief technical officer of Weststar Aviation Services. “The recent oil and gas market downturn with weak economic growth forced our clients to restructure their costs. In response, we have identified high avionics maintenance costs as an area to be improved. Working and partnering with Honeywell, we have enrolled 23 AW139s in the HAPP program. By offering effective cost savings, coupled with future cost predictability, we are firming up our pledge to share and mitigate the economic burden with our clients.”

With HAPP, Weststar Aviation Services’ AW139 helicopters will benefit from exchange and repair services at a predictable, fixed price. Available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for aircraft-on-ground emergency services and with paid air-freight and no-charge loaner parts, HAPP provides the company with Honeywell’s Spares Exchange Program to get grounded aircraft flying again as quickly as possible. The coverage is also transferable if the aircraft is sold. The protection plan benefits include no buy-in, fleet discounts, factory-backed support identical to operators’ original factory warranty, flexible payment options that allow operators to renew annually or lock into current pricing for several years, and a field support system that includes a global network of supply depots and authorized sales and service centers.

HAPP is an extended warranty program designed for general aviation and business aviation. It covers most Honeywell avionics on the airframe for a year or more. Operators can choose to enroll in HAPP regardless of the age of the aircraft with no buy-in required. The program’s pricing is based on flight hours, airframe and equipment on board, and special pricing is available for fleet operators. HAPP covers any product maintained in the spares and exchange pool, regardless of how long it has been off warranty.
