India – Two government-funded hospitals to get helipads

24-Nov-2015

Two recently set-up and government-funded hospitals in India are to have emergency helipads added to their facilities.  The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the cities of Bhubaneswar and Raipur (the state capitals of Odisha and Chhattisgarh respectively)  will have the landing facilities added in the next financial year as they are not included in this year’s budget.

AIIMS Bhubaneswar Director Dr Ashok Mohapatra is quoted by Prameya News as saying that the location for the helipad at his hospital has been identified.

In other countries, AIIMS would be called a “University Hospital”.  All-India Institute of Medical Sciences was established as an institution of national importance by an Act of Parliament with the objects to develop patterns of teaching in Undergraduate and Post-graduate Medical Education in all its branches so as to demonstrate a high standard of Medical Education in India; to bring together in one place educational facilities of the highest order for the training of personnel in all important branches of health activity; and to attain self-sufficiency in Post-graduate Medical Education.

AIIMS has hospitals at Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Patna, Raipur and Rishikesh.
