The National EMS Pilots Association (NEMSPA) is pleased to announce that Miles Dunagan has been appointed as their next President Elect and will be taking over the duties of President for NEMSPA at the 2016 Air Medical Transport Conference in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Dunagan is a veteran fixed wing and rotary wing commercial pilot of some 27 years with over 8,000 hours of Pilot in Command flight time.   He has been involved in the Helicopter Air Ambulance industry for the past 10 years and has been a board member of NEMSPA since 2014.  He is a Certified Flight Instructor and a graduate of the Transportation Safety Institute course on Safety Management Systems. He is also a graduate of the AAMS Safety Academy, is a Certified Medical Transport Safety Professional and has served on the AAMS Safety Council since 2014

“I am thrilled with this opportunity” commented Dunagan. “NEMSPA has spearheaded numerous initiatives over the years which have made a positive impact on the air ambulance and aviation industries.  I am extremely proud to be a part of this aviation brother and sisterhood and look forward to NEMSPA continuing to lead the way and push the envelope for better safety, risk mitigation, training and infrastructure improvements.  One area that I really want to focus on over the next few years is Line Orientation Flight Training or LOFT.”  In their position paper, ‘An Opportunity to Improve’, submitted to the NTSB during the 2009 HEMS hearings, NEMSPA addressed LOFT as a key training component that was being significantly underutilizing in the industry.  “We want to work directly with the FAA and the NTSB in designing Air Ambulance specific LOFT scenarios that are based on past Air Ambulance accidents.  This will provide both current and new pilots, as well as clinicians, with better real world, lessons-learned, training opportunities.  I have no doubt that NEMSPA’s members and our board of directors will meet these challenges head on and continue to make a positive impact on our industry.”

The National EMS Pilots Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit professional pilot organization dedicated to serving rotary wing and fixed wing pilots involved in the Air Ambulance Transport industry.  Formed in 1984, NEMSPA enjoys a rich history of innovation and excellence synonymous with professionalism and safety.  NEMSPA works very closely with the FAA, DOT, NTSB, USHST, HAI, Hospitals, Healthcare Systems, Air Ambulance Providers, Industry Organizations and Associations as well as many others to promote quality and safety in the aviation and air ambulance industries.  Additional information on NEMSPA, membership and other opportunities can be found at www.nemspa.org .
