Air Methods Corporation, which operates Wyoming LifeFlight, has ended operations in Sheridan.

Mike McCafferty, who is Sheridan Memorial Hospital CEO, announced the end of LifeFlight services here in an email to hospital employees. The hospital had provided space for the LifeFlight helicopter on the hospital campus.

McCafferty said Wyoming LifeFlight’s decision to close the base in Sheridan would not leave physicians and patients without options for air medical transportation services. In the email, he said there are many alternative air medical providers in the area, including MedFlight, HELP Flight, Guardian Flight and Wyoming LifeFlight via that service’s base in Casper. McCafferty said the hospital doesn’t anticipate a significant change in the ability to transport patients in a timely manner, and the hospital will continue to work with emergency ground transportation services for local and long distance emergency transportation.

McCafferty said the reason for Wyoming LifeFlight’s decision to leave Sheridan was financial. Sheridan Media is working to contact a representative with the company.
