A month ago was the official opening of the new North-West Regional Hospital’s helipad, but it has still not been used. Helicopters are still having to land at Burnie High School and have their patients transported by ground ambulances.
Questions have been raised over the issue, such as why have an opening if it isn’t open and some residents are saying they feel “duped.” As reported by The Advocate, Health Minister Michael Ferguson retorted by saying he will seek further counsel, but that he made a point to say on the day of the opening that they had some “fine matters of detail in relation to the Civil Aviation Safety Authority.” The helipad project came to $1.4 million.
