Last week, in the Anchorage Flight Standards District Office (FSDO), the FAA held an annual renewal class for designated pilot examiners (DPEs). There were over 40 attendees in the room, and participants were eager to learn about the latest FAA requirements.

Taking advantage of the fact that Helicopter Association International (HAI) Director of Safety Outreach Stan Rose and Robinson Helicopter Chief Instructor Tim Tucker were in town for an HAI/FAASTeam helicopter safety seminar, the FAA asked them to talk to the group about trends in helicopter safety and some of the concerns facing the industry in the future.
