During their new budget announcement, the Mount Isa LifeFlight base revealed that they had a year’s funding package of $2.4 million that will enable them to purchase a newer model helicopter. They will be replacing their Bell 230 with a BK117. The new helicopter will enable them to transport two patients at a time, along with being Night Vision Goggle capable. The winch equipment will also provide faster service as they will be able to lower crew members down to patients if the helicopter is unable to land, reports North West Star.
