Bell’s V-280 Valor tiltrotor prototype is currently going through its ground trials at Bell’s Amarillo Assembly Centre, Texas. The prototype is intended to replace the US Army’s Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawks and Boeing AH-64 Apache helicopters. Bell promises that the Valor will have twice the speed and range of current helicopters. It has a V-tail, rectracable landing gear, two GE T64 turboshaft engines and an external sling that can take up to 12,000 lbs to 10,500 lbs, reports Aviation Analysist.
