The on-call helicopter air ambulance service in Te Anau will remain open thanks to a new operating model. The base in Queenstown will be receiving a new cover, as well as a new and larger helicopter. The South Island will be provided services by Helicopter Emergency Medical Services New Zealand Limited (HEMS) and a joint venture between GCH Aviation and Helicopters Otago, reports Stuff. There is also talk of purchasing two new helicopters during 2019.
