The Shock Trauma Air Rescue Service (STARS), a non-profit helicopter air ambulance organization, is excited to announce Rescue in the Rockies for STARS, one of its flagship fundraisers in Alberta, has an all-female cast this year. This much-appreciated eighth annual fundraising event will be held on Friday, June 7, 2019. All funds raised from the women’s efforts will help STARS continue to provide a safe, rapid and highly specialized emergency transport system for the critically ill and injured.
“At STARS, our number one mission is to fight to save lives and be there when people need us most,” says Andrea Robertson, president & CEO of STARS. “This year’s participants are the epitome of smart, strong, powerful and caring women. It is through the incredible commitment and support of these community leaders and their generous donations that we are able to continue to deliver on our mission of saving lives.”
STARS is excited to announce this year’s participants:
“I’m so honoured and excited to contribute to STARS’ fundraising efforts – especially as a participant in this first-ever, all-female Rescue in the Rockies,” says Blaire Lancaster, VP Business Development & External Affairs with Ferus Natural Gas Fuels. “With my growing passion and respect for STARS, I hope to remain involved with the organization in a meaningful way for many years to come.”
On June 7, a STARS helicopter will airlift the participants from the STARS hanger to a remote location in Kananaskis Country. They will be dropped into the wilderness with only their cell phones to help them. By reaching out to friends, family and colleagues for support, participants will compete with each other to be the first to raise $100,000 in donations. There will also be survival competitions throughout the day that will pit these leaders against one another in friendly competition to test their survival skills. Once the participants reach their fundraising goal, they will be “rescued” by STARS and returned to the Peace Bridge helipad in Calgary to celebrate their success.
