One of the AW189 development aircraft was noted last week with a new feature at the rear of its fuselage. Leonardo have confirmed to HeliHub.com that they are test flying a “rear pod”, to provide additional storage/baggage capabilities of up to 7-10 bags.
The kit is aimed at offshore operators, ) for the AW189 super medium, primarily for offshore transport operations. This solution is expected to achieve certification by Spring 2021.
Data from market intelligence specialists Parapex Media shows a total of 42 AW189/149s produced are currently in offshore use, out of a total 72 delivered to customers to date.
