PHPA becomes SoCal Rotors

As we say goodbye to 2020 and embark on a New Year, we are also saying goodbye to a bit of our past while ramping up our plans for the future.
The Professional Helicopter Pilots Association (PHPA) was formed in 1967 to bring the helicopter community and Los Angeles area residents together, to meet, discuss and learn. It’s been a long ride, and we couldn’t have done it without the support of our members who have attended our events, volunteered their time and supported our efforts to represent our industry through their generous financial contributions.
As the rotorcraft industry continues to evolve, seemingly more rapidly than ever, the needs of our organization have evolved as well. To keep up with these changes, we have started the process of building out a new roadmap for our organization. The first step is to look back at the benefits that our organization has brought to the pilots, operators, agencies and manufacturers of Southern California, and from there, to look forward to the needs and challenges that face our industry. We don’t need to tell you that there’s a whole new landscape of rotary-winged flight happening out there, from newly-certificated drone pilots all the way up to the evolving world of Urban Air Mobility and more.
With this in mind, it was time to recognize that we are only as beneficial, as an organization, as our ability to adapt and keep pace with the industry. In short, we were due for an upgrade. And 2020 became the year to make this vision a reality.
Late last year, we rolled out our new name – the Southern California Rotorcraft Association – and have started transitioning the content from our old web site to our new site, socalrotors.org. You’ll start seeing the “SoCal Rotors” moniker more often, as we embark on a new era of social media and digital content. We have a lot of big plans and big ideas, but we know that big change takes time. And we’re ready.
As we embark on our new journey, we are asking for your financial support. We need you now more than ever before, as we look to expand our membership benefits, offer new safety seminars and continue our collaboration with our regulatory partners in the areas of flight safety and noise abatement. We can’t do it without you!
