The helicopter landing platform on the future operational center of the University Hospital Erlangen was officially opened yesterday. A few minutes after the landing lights were switched on, Christoph 115 was the first helicopter to land on the seventh floor of the high-rise roof. On board: Pilot Maik Rosenbaum, HEMS TC Michael Junghans and emergency doctor Dr. Albert Schiele. The platform is now open for landings 24 hours a day. The university clinic was flown to by crews from the DRF Luftrettung a total of 107 times last year via the previous ground landing pad.

The air rescuers are looking forward to the future advantages that the new landing pad will bring. The direct access from the roof to the clinic building means there is no need to transfer the patient to an ambulance for interim transport, and the patients can be transported to the appropriate emergency room immediately after landing – especially to the internal medicine and surgery departments. This significantly reduces the transfer time. In addition, it is a secured landing site with options for catering and direct processing of the input material as well as the use of wet rooms.
