The DRF Luftrettung mourns the loss of Dr. hc Siegfried Steiger, pioneer of modern rescue services, air rescue in Germany and longtime President of today’s DRF Luftrettung, who died yesterday at the age of 92.
with dr hc Siegfried Steiger is leaving us a person who, throughout his life, pushed and shaped the development and expansion of the rescue service in Germany with unique drive and energy. He was undeterred by resistance and obstacles, because he always had his goal clearly in mind: to save lives. In the course of his long life, he was able to record indispensable successes that have improved the rescue service for the benefit of all and are indispensable today: the introduction of the emergency numbers 110 and 112, the development of emergency telephone networks on German roads, the introduction of radiotelephony in ambulances and also above all, the development of air rescue is an important part of this success.
