HeliOffshore published its Master Minimum Helideck Equipment List (MMHEL) reference document, which provides a clear, accessible, and proven methodology to guide the pursuit of safe helidesk operations based on the serviceability of helideck equipment.

The publication of the MMHEL standardises communications and helideck operations to ensure safety issues are easily identifiable and safety recommendations are readily accessible and applicable. Standardised safety determinations will improve consistency between helicopter operators and helideck owners and operators, ultimately leading to a safer frontline.

Tim Rolfe, CEO, HeliOffshore, commented: “Adoption of the MMHEL recommended practice will ensure that all parties involved in offshore helideck operations are aligned. By using the same document across the industry, each stakeholder is empowered to play their part in improving offshore helideck operations, with aligned decision criteria, standardised communications and structured responsibilities.”

“Collaboration empowers safety and is at the very heart of HeliOffshore. I would like to thank the HeliOffshore Helideck Working Group, industry stakeholders and every HeliOffshore member, from designers to pilots and passengers, who came together to deliver this guidance. Together, we will implement and maintain ever-higher levels of performance, so those we are responsible for travel home safely every day.”

The MMHEL Reference Document includes practical use examples, repair categories, and the master minimum helideck equipment list. It will ultimately be one of a suite of documents capturing best practice in helideck management and operation.

The document will be updated regularly to reflect latest best practice. MMHEL specialists are also encouraged to participate in HeliOffshore Space, the secure online collaboration tool.
