Helicopter Association International (HAI) applauds House passage of S. 516, the Advanced Air Mobility Coordination and Leadership Act. The legislation will coordinate efforts related to the physical and digital security, safety, infrastructure, and federal investment necessary for maturation of the advanced air mobility (AAM) ecosystem in the United States.

“Innovative aviation technology propels our industry forward,” says Jim Viola, HAI president and CEO. “The Advanced Air Mobility Coordination and Leadership Act provides a shared space for leaders in their fields to explore next steps for the aviation industry and foster future growth. Industry professionals and the federal government must come together to encourage further development in the AAM sphere. HAI thanks the House for recognizing the need for intergovernmental coordination and industry collaboration on AAM policymaking.”

The Advanced Air Mobility Coordination and Leadership Act was introduced by Senator Jerry Moran (RKans.) and Senator Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) in early 2021. HAI applauds the senators for their efforts, and thanks Representatives Rick Larsen (D-WA-02), Sharice Davids (D-KS-03), Dina Titus (D-NV-01), and Troy Balderson (R-OH-12), who sponsored similar legislation in the House. S. 516 establishes an AAM interagency working group that coordinates with industry professionals to develop recommendations that support the evolution of AAM technologies. These recommendations will provide a framework to bring early AAM to higher levels of activity and societal benefit. The working group would also develop a comprehensive plan detailing the roles and responsibilities of each federal department and agency for implementing each entity’s recommendations. HAI shared support for the Advanced Air Mobility Coordination and Leadership Act upon its introduction and applauded its passage through the Senate in March 2022.
