Helicopter Association International (HAI) has issued a call for courses and instructors for HAI HELI-EXPO 2023. The show will take place at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia, Mar. 6–9, 2023, with the show floor open Mar. 7–9. HAI is seeking proposals from instructors for HAI Rotor Safety Challenge, Professional Education, and HAI Rotor Business.

HAI Rotor Safety Challenge (RSC) courses are generally just an hour long and focus solely on topics related to safety, and they are free to anyone who comes to the show. HAI presents Professional Education Courses (PEC) selected for their ability to strengthen the essential skills of helicopter professionals in one of 10 primary areas. HAI Rotor Business (HRB) will feature short sessions and events for small-business owners.

PECs are more in-depth and may charge a fee for attendance. These courses are usually longer—typically one or two full days—and offer job-specific training. HRB courses may be open to HAI members only.

“One of the most popular elements of every HAI HELI-EXPO is the training available to attendees,” says Greg Brown, Director of Education for HAI. “No matter what your role is in the industry, or how long you’ve worked in, on, or around rotorcraft, we have classes that you’ll find helpful. Our instructors are people who also work in the industry, so the courses are current and helpful for staying relevant with the latest training and trends.”

Open for free to all HAI HELI-EXPO attendees, the Rotor Safety Challenge will feature free safety events and short sessions, conveniently scheduled on show days, that provide a forum for helicopter professionals to learn industry best practices and to —

  • Identify key safety issues facing helicopter professionals
  • Expand their knowledge of safety concepts and professional skills
  • Discover tools and techniques to improve safety performance
  • Prepare for safety challenges facing different segments of the industry
  • Engage in a dialogue among different helicopter professions
  • Identify emerging safety issues relevant to helicopter professionals
  • Earn professional education credit toward the FAA Wings and AMT programs.

“Teaching a Rotor Safety Course is also an opportunity to give back to the industry,” continues Brown. “Many of you have learned your safety skills and techniques from others, and this is a way you can pass along that knowledge to the next generation.”

Each Professional Education Course (PEC) offered at HAI HELI-EXPO is chosen for its ability to strengthen the essential skills of helicopter professionals in one of 10 primary areas:

  • Career Development
  • Human Factors
  • Insurance
  • International Operations
  • Maintenance Management
  • Operations Management
  • Personnel Development
  • Pilot Skills
  • Safety Management
  • Uncrewed Operations.

Selected PECs are also distinctive in their ability to address issues of importance clearly and thoughtfully to those working in the helicopter industry and to provide current, comprehensive information helicopter professionals can use as a basis for effective decision-making in a rapidly changing work environment.

HAI Rotor Business sessions and events will take place Mar. 7–9 and are chosen for their ability to strengthen essential skills or to provide supportive training for small businesses. Expected courses will feature presentations on:

  • How to speak to the media during a crisis
  • The best ways to finance helicopter assets for your operations
  • Ways to reduce insurance costs
  • General business operations
  • Recruiting and maintaining a quality workforce.

Selected courses are also distinctive in their ability to address issues of importance clearly and thoughtfully to those working in the helicopter industry and provide current, comprehensive information that helicopter professionals can use as a basis for effective decision-making in a rapidly changing work environment.
